Consider buying a house in Dordogne or Provence ? In Dordogne, most of the interesting stone properties have already been taken up, mostly by English people, and the little that is left is therefore very expensive.  In Provence, the prices are most of the time prohibitive. Lot et Garonne, just south of the Dordogne and on the same latitude as Provence has a lot to offer and is still mostly undiscovered.  The hilly landscape is green and lush.  This is the orchard of France.  Hill sides are covered with sunflower fields, fruit trees or vines.  The summers are long and hot, the springs and autumns glorious, and the winters short and sharp.  Here you can still find beautiful spacious stone houses at a reasonable price.  With a relatively cheap solar heating system, the pools are usable easily from April to October.

Here, you're spoilt for choices of location: isolated farm houses, overlooking the valleys of the Lot, the Garonne or the Baïse,   beautiful typical hilltop or bastide village houses, or bright modern villas on the edge of attractive, lively towns like Villeneuve sur Lot, with its beautiful exclusive boutiques, and charming medieval bastide historical centre.
